Monica Van den Dool hold a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana and currently teaches at San Jose State University. In recent years, she has been working on the body of work which is inspired by the genre of still life painting (functioning traditionally as a reminder of mortality) and particularly by the compositions of French painter, Jean-Siméon Chardin (1699–1779). During the workshop, she will demonstrate how she created the sculpture in the exhibit “Clay Mentors II” at Clay Mix with fired glazed pieces being inserted into wet clay, as well as using press mold and altered forms.
