This will be an exciting and fun workshop that is a rare opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with internationally recognized ceramic artist Randy Johnston. In this workshop, Randy will focus on the exchange of ideas involved in working in clay related to form and function with sculptural intention. Randy will present a variety of hand building techniques, including constructing from slabs and the use of additive and subtractive approaches to develop volumetric forms. Randy has traveled widely and worked extensively in Chile, Japan, Europe and the US and will share ideas about these experiences and influences. Randy studied with Warren MacKenzie and has been influenced by Shoji Hamada and the Mingei movement through his study in Japan with Living National Treasure Tatsuzo Shimaoka. He is Professor Emeritus of University of Wisconsin, River Falls.
