Jeff Oestreich is a full-time studio potter working in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. He was introduced to ceramics by his professor Warren MacKenzie while in college. After his graduation, he was apprenticed to Bernard Leach at St. Ives in Great Britain for two years and returned to Minnesota in 1971. The subject matter of Oestreich's work is function. He is concerned with how his pottery operates in a domestic setting both physically and aesthetically. The decorative treatment of his pottery is influenced by Art Deco design with the abundance of geometric shapes and playful detail. A highly regarded studio potter, Oestreich has exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. His work can be found in the outstanding collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Mashiko Municipal Ceramic Museum, Japan, the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. Over the past 40 years Jeff Oestreich has conducted numerous workshops across the county.
